LIAISON - NoveL approaches to mIcro- and nAno-plastIcS detectiOn iN water

PRIN [2023-2025]

Abstract

Pollution from micro and nanoplastics (MNPs) accumulated in the environment has become a severe threat in the last few years. The LIAISON project aims to set up a synergistic strategy between different techniques, each able to provide different and complementary information for detecting and quantifying MNPs in real samples. Our approach is based on developing innovative reporter materials, able to bind MNPs with a concomitant change in their fluorescence and Raman signature. The main project goals are the development of an analytical protocol for the detection of MNPs in water by means of luminescence and Raman microscopy and the realization of a prototype of a portable system for the on-field detection of MNPs based on fluorescence.
