ThermoPros - Thermochemiluminescence-based nanoprobes for multiplex prostate cancer biomarkers in personalized medicine

PRIN [2023-2025]

Abstract

Thermochemiluminescence (TCL) consists of a “reagentless” reaction where photons are emitted by a moiety in its excited state generated via a thermally induced molecular fragmentation. Therefore, light sources and reagent mixing is not necessary and this allows for an easier miniaturization in the preparation of point of care tests (POCT).

In ThermoPros, we aim to use TCL to realize a POCT device for the simultaneous assay of the main prostate cancer (PCa) biomarkers to make up for the actual PSA screening in serum that suffers from a limited sensitivity and a high false-positive incidence.

ThermoPros will prepare new stable and efficient TCL nanostructured probes for the multiplex detection of PCa biomarkers via a lateral flow Immunoassay format in a device containing more than one strip. Up to four biomarkers can be analysed with a detection based on spectral and spatial resolution. This will offer to clinicians an enlarged toolbox to efficiently delivery a personalized therapy.
