Committees and Working Groups

Committees and Working Groups assist the Director and the Board in carrying out specific functions. Their tasks include investigative and proposal-making on strategic issues for the Department.

Department Quality Assurance Committee

The Committee plays an important role in the University's quality system, spanning teaching, research, and third mission/social impact. 

Functions

Oversee departmental planning and self-evaluation processes, prepare related documentation, and ensure its sharing within the Department Council.

Faculty-student Joint Committee

In each Department there is a Joint faculty-student commettee which is composed of an equal number of teachers and students.

Functions

he Joint Committee plays a key role in the University's quality system regarding teaching and student services for all of the Department's programs. Students play an active role, being able to contribute their views, express their observations, and propose improvements.

The commettee:

  • It is responsible for monitoring, with specific indicators, the educational offering, the quality of teaching and student service activities;
  • formulates opinions on the establishment, activation, modification and suppression of the training offer;
  • can submit proposals to the Department Council on issues pertaining to teaching and on the allocation of financial resources;
  • draws up an annual report on the teaching activities of the Degree Courses for which the Department is responsible.

Research commettee

Functions

The commission monitors the research activity of the department as a whole and its component groups, based on indicators consistent with the department's objectives. It promotes the integration of skills and cooperation among researchers within the department to increase competitiveness for European funding. Based on its evaluation, the Research commettee recommends specific guidelines for the distribution of resources among the SSDs, specifically for recruitment and career progression and the allocation of the integrated research budget (BIR). It establishes the criteria for the distribution of Marco Polo grants, which typically cover part of the expenses of doctoral students during research periods abroad, evaluating the possibility of co-financing by tutors. The Commission, also drawing on the results of the University Research Evaluations (VRA) and National Research Evaluations (VQR), assumes the investigative monitoring and oversight functions for the Research and valorisation of knowledge Quality Assurance (QA) and is therefore responsible for drafting the SUA-RD report.

Teaching committee

Functions

The commission is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and ensuring quality in teaching and liaises with the Schools to which the department belongs and with the teaching commissions of the individual degree programs within the department. Through its working groups, it promotes the development of new teaching initiatives, the internationalization of the curriculum, the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices, and agreements with external organizations for curricular internship activities. At least one representative from the department for each degree program is automatically included on the teaching commettee.

Valorisation of knowledge 

Functions

The commettee collects information relating to outreach, with the aim of promoting economic growth by transforming the knowledge produced by research into knowledge useful for productive purposes (intellectual property management, business creation, contract research, particularly deriving from research-industry relationships, and the management of intermediation and support structures).

The commettee also monitors cultural, social, and entrepreneurial outreach activities, i.e., the production of public and private goods that enhance the well-being of society. These goods may be cultural (cultural events and heritage, museum management, scientific dissemination), social (public health, community-benefit activities), entrepreneurial (technology transfer, research-based business generation, contracts with the business world, technical/professional consultancy), educational (adult education, lifelong learning, cross-curricular entrepreneurship training, continuing education), or civic awareness (public debates and controversies, scientific expertise).

Internazionalisation commettee

Functions

The committee coordinates and promotes international initiatives, operating in both research and teaching, in accordance with department policy. To strengthen international collaborations, the department may activate, subject to Council approval, formal Research Cooperation Agreements with individual foreign institutions. The committee is also responsible for developing communication, awareness-raising, and disseminating practices for the department's key achievements, in order to promote its image nationally and internationally.

Through its own working group, it participates in the international "Living Values" project, which reflects on the relevance of the values ​​enunciated in the Magna Carta of Universities.

Communication commettee

Functions

It is responsible for developing, constantly updating, and improving the department's multichannel communications through the portal system and multimedia tools. It also ensures the liaison between the Department and the University for the design and implementation of communication projects and materials.

Departmental equipment commettee

Functions

The commettee is responsible for rationalizing the use of existing equipment, promoting the sharing of research tools and infrastructure, identifying available equipment, and evaluating the possibility of purchasing medium- to large-scale equipment. This assessment is based on the needs of individual researchers within the Department, the lack of similar equipment within the University, and the interest of other University departments in purchasing it. The commission is also responsible for seeking external funding for the purchase of equipment.

Space commettee

Functions

It is responsible for managing and qualifying the space resources that become available and proposing their use, liaising with the Department's members and the Director, who presents the results of the work to the Council.

Library commettee

Functions

The Committee is responsible for evaluating the acquisition and maintenance of the bibliographic collection and databases, and for discussing the distribution criteria for any co-funding for database consultation by department members. It is an integral part of the Scientific Committee of the Interdepartmental Chemistry Library. The Committee also promotes museum and outreach activities within the department.

Guidance commettee

Functions

The guidance committee, both for incoming and outgoing students, is responsible for promoting, monitoring, and coordinating events such as Open Days, online seminars, and course presentation days, integrating University initiatives with those specific to the Department.
